History:

I was Born in Glasgow Scotland, my main inspiration and love of the arts came from my grandfather, who was an accomplished painter in the UK.Alfred Boyd carved this lion

In 1978 after finishing a degree in history and philosophy, I realized that my Honours B.A. could not land me a Job unless I wanted to drive cab so I opened my first studio in Sudbury. For the initial 10 years my work was exclusively black&white hand made photographs.

It wasn't long before I discovered the limits of the photographic process on it's own and started experimenting with airbrush in order to combine photography with graphic design much like we can do today with Photoshop.

The airbrush/photography work that insuded caught the eye of promoters in the music industry and I became busy creating posters for bands touring Canada and theU.S.

By the 90's I was called apon by local and Toronto based ad agencies; clients included: The Toronto Symphany Orchestra, The Toronto Star, Globe&Mail, Maclean's Magazine, Time Magazine, The New York Times, Top Model, and Passion Magazine of Germany.

Alfred Boyd's Church StudioIn 1995 I purchased an old church built in the 1940's and coverted it into a studio/ makeup loft and living areras.

The 3,000 sq. foot studio is ideal for facilitating large groups and wedding parties. The Studio has a capacity for 40 ft. of green screen and is great for producing TV commercials and music videos.

What's new for me?

In addition to reality altering photography using tools in CS5 and Topaz, for the past 8 years I have been finding that the rapid growth of the internet has opened up new avenues. My background in photography paved the way into designing photo driven websites, multimedia and video editing.

I have always been self-taught and and I love to learn new ways to develop and expand creatively, so I am thankful for the internet, my "university". Almost every topic you can think of relating to web design is covered in some chat room or on a You Tube video, from how to build a spry drop-down menu to creating a custom vertical scroll bar in Flash Catalyst.

The ability to learn what I need to know from techies and geeks from around the world is no more than a mouse click away. Often I need this information at 4:00 in the morning and I can get it; (thank god I don't have to wait for Chapters to open in the morning and buy the $160. book.)

The internet is a treasure hunt and Google is the map.

It is a great time to be a student of the arts; the internet has democratized learning and made knowledge easily accessible if you have the willingness to seek it out or "click" on it, but to paraphrase Robert The Bruce "if at first you don't succeed click and click again."
